Officials claim that the organisation founded by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, which operated out of Dubai, was utilising the online book betting programme to sign up new users, generate user IDs, and launder money via a complex network of benami bank accounts.
How did it all started?
Chandrakar and Uppal, who began as local bookies, eventually relocated abroad and created this illegal programme in order to reach a larger audience. Chandrakar used to sell juice in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, and Uppal was an engineering graduate while they were in their twenties. The platform was established following their 2018 relocation to Dubai.
By allowing users to gamble using credit cards, UPI, debit cards, and bank transfers as it expanded its user base, the app continued to evade India’s laws on taxation, money-laundering, and foreign exchange.
Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, who run the Mahadev Online Bookings from Dubai, were in charge of overseeing its operations.
