Carrick who is currently at the helm of the club before Ralf Rangnick takes over as the interim manager till the end of the season decided to bench Cristiano Ronaldo. Given the stature of the player and the magnitude of the contest, the latest development came across as a massive setback for the club’s fans with their fulcrum in attack being left out.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash, Carrick went onto dwell into his decision with him revealing that he had decided to go ahead with the move to keep things fresh with him having already spoken to Ronaldo about his decision.

“A few tweaks and changes to freshen things up, of course Cristiano is the standout name, but it’s just a game plan and idea. I had a good chat with Cristiano, we decided to go with that.
“It’s a decision to pick a team to be honest, I don’t think it needs more than that. Everybody has been terrific, Cristiano included, he’s ready to come on if needed to come and win the game. We’ve come with a plan, we’re happy with the team we’ve,” Carrick said when asked to opine on the move.
With Ronaldo benched and not playing today, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho will be tasked with the attacking side of the game for the visitors.
