With her courageous victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the 2023 final, Coco Gauff became just the 10th adolescent to win the US Open championship. However, no other victors under the age of 18 are included on the list of US Open women’s winners.

Gauff won her first Grand Slam championship and became the 45th player overall and the 14th American woman to win a major in the Open Era even though the Flushing Meadows final was far from a Flushing Meadows classic.
1. Tracy Austin – 16 years, 8 months, 28 days
Year: 1979
Although it seems unlikely that anyone will surpass Tracy Austin’s record anytime soon, one can never rule it out. The 16-year-old defeated four-time defending champion Chris Evert 6-4, 6-3 to claim the first of her two Grand Slam triumphs.
2. Martina Hingis – 16 years, 11 months, 8 days
Year: 1997
In 1997, Martina Hingis, who wasn’t nearly the youngest, became just the second 16-year-old to win the US Open championship. The Swiss teenager overcame Venus Williams 6-0, 6-4 in the championship match to claim her third Grand Slam of the year and her career. Hingis then won two more major championships.
3. Monica Seles – 17 years, 9 months, 5 days
Year: 1991
When the 1991 US Open rolled around, Monica Seles had already won three Grand Slam tournaments. At Flushing Meadows, she defeated the famous Martina Navratilova 7-6 (7-1), 6-1, to add a fourth major victory to her resume.
4. Serena Williams – 17 years, 11 months, 15 days
Year: 1999
In the 1999 US Open final, Serena Williams defeated Martina Hingis 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to claim the first of her 23 Grand Slam victories.
5. Emma Raducanu – 18 years, 9 months, 29 days
Year: 2021
The 18-year-old British player became the first qualifier, man or woman, to win a Grand Slam by winning 10 consecutive matches without dropping a set. In the championship match, she defeated fellow adolescent Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-3 to claim the victory.
6. Steffi Graf – 19 years, 2 months, 26 days
Year: 1988
By defeating Gabriela Sabatini by scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 6-1 at the 1988 US Open, the legendary Steffi Graf wrapped up a dominant Grand Slam campaign. She joined Margaret Court and Maureen Connolly as the third female to complete the Calendar Grand Slam.
7. Svetlana Kuznetsova – 19 years, 3 months, 4 days
Year: 2004
Svetlana Kuznetsova won the US Open in 2004, becoming the first Russian woman to do so. She was also the third Russian woman to win a major after Anastasia Myskina and Maria Sharapova.
8. Bianca Andreescu – 19 years, 2 months, 22 days
Year: 2019
With a stunning victory over tennis legend Serena Williams in the 2019 final, adolescent Bianca Andreescu became the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title. With her victory over Williams in the championship match at Arthur Ashe Stadium, she also made history by being the first player to win the US Open in their main-draw debut.
9. Maria Sharapova – 19 years, 4 months, 24 days
Year: 2006
Maria Sharapova entered the list of teenage US Open title winners just over a year after she won the 2005 Wimbledon championship at the age of 17. The 19-year-old upset second seed Justine Henin-Hardenne 6-4, 6-4 in the championship match and dropped just one set on the way to her fifth Grand Slam victory during the course of her career.
