Aitana Bonmatí was born on January 18, 1998 in in Vilanova i la Geltrú, which is the capital city of Catalonia’s Garraf region. During early years, she used to play basketball but switched to football at the age of seven, joining mixed teams with boys. Bonmatí frequently remembers being made fun of for her diminutive stature by boys. It is believed that her strength and intensity were improved because her initial football clubs, CD Ribes and CF Cubelles, were male/mixed s*x teams.
When she was 13 years old, Bonmatí signed up to play for Barcelona’s youth teams. To get to practice, she would take two-hour public transport rides with her father.
