This tragic news comes after a 15-year-old student from the same school passed away last April, after a driver rammed into a group of teenagers at a bus stop near Westlake.

Julius was a talented athlete and also played for the schoolโs lacrosse team besides playing football.
Westlake High school football player Julius Poppinga passes away
Following his sudden demise, Westlake High school principal Jason Branham stated the following in an email to the school community:
On behalf of the entire Westlake High School community, we send our deepest condolences to Juliusโ family, friends, teammates and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and interacting with him.โ
โAt Westlake and throughout CVUSD, one of our greatest strengths is our caring and close community, which makes it all the more important that we continue to support and be there for one another in this incomprehensible time of loss and sadness.โ
According to Westlake coach Mark Serve, he had just visited the kid in his hospital bed recently. He shared how Julius did not want to talk about his health and instead wanted to talk football. As such, the pair talked about him Julius getting back on the field that day. Serve added how he was just texting him last night and letting him know that he loves him before hearing the tragic news this morning.
Poppingaโs teammates got to know about his tragic death during a team meeting. The team are scheduled to host their Conejo Valley rival Thousand Oaks on Friday. As of now, it is unclear if Juliusโ death will affect the status of the game. However, Serve, who claims to have spoken with Poppingaโs father, confirmed that Julius would have wanted the team to play.
Julius Poppinga cause of death
According to reports, Julius Poppinga passed away early Wednesday morning on August 18, following a severe asthma attack. A source claims that Poppinga was previously hospitalised due to lung problems. The hospital reports, that Julius suffered a collapsed lung, from which he never recovered.

Julius Poppinga was a senior at Westlake High school who played defensive end and offensive line on the football team. He was 17 years old at the time of his passing and was a key player for his school team. However, he hadnโt played in any games or practices since Westlakeโs season-opening game against Taft earlier this month on August 18 due to his ill health.
Weight and height
Julius stood at a height of 6 feet 1 inches and weighed around 230 pounds.
