After a player passed away at the young age of 27, Bury Football Club dedicated a heartfelt tribute to her. The club posted a statement on its website and on social media announcing Emily Wilcock’s passing. The 27-year-old allegedly passed away “suddenly” with her cause of death not known.
The women’s leisure area was where Emily, who was described as “lovely” and “always having a smile on her face,” played. She “barely missed a training session,” according to the squad, and was “very proud and committed” to her team, the “Greens.”
Social internet is flooded with Emily’s tributes.
Tributes have flooded in for a Bury football hero who passed away suddenly. The side announced Emily Wilcock’s passing in a statement on their website and on social media. At Bury FC’s game against Cheadle Town on Saturday at Gigg Lane, her passing will be commemorated.
“Bury Football Club is extremely saddened to share the passing of Emily Wilcock, aged 27,” said the club’s statement. “Emily joined the recreational team to play two and a half years ago, and she was a very proud and dedicated team member, barely missing a training session, participating in additional summer sessions, and attending social events with the squad.”
The player for the “Greens,” one of teams participating in regional leisure competitions, won League 2 of the Greater Manchester Women’s Flexi League in 2022–2023 and travelled with the team to Barcelona in 2022. She scored her first goal of the year in the final game of the campaign, earning Manager’s Player of the Season honours for 2021–22.
“Emily was such a nice lady with a terrific personality and a bright smile on her face, everyone who knew her would know. For each of these reasons, she will be sincerely missed. Both our Women’s game this evening and the Gigg Lane ceremony on Saturday will honour Emily. In order to help Emily’s family, boyfriend, friends, and all of her club teammates cope with this incredibly terrible news, the club would like to send its thoughts and sympathies to them.”
