Joe Westerman’s marriage ends in scandal
Westerman’s now ex-wife, Lauren, was forced to defend herself after the video went viral in February earlier this year. She vehemently denied being the woman in the video and expressed her concern for their three children, one of whom is almost 15.
In a statement, she said, “Can I make this VERY clear that this is NOT me. We have three children one of whom is almost 15 and she doesn’t need to see things like this all over social media!”
Lauren revealed that she had been sent the video before it was posted online and said, “Truth is, he only told me because it was on social media.” She added, “I’ve relived that footage over and over again. It’s something I’ll never be able to get out of my mind, no matter how hard I try.”
Joe Westerman apologizes and begs for forgiveness
After the incident, Joe Westerman sent text messages to his wife, begging for her forgiveness. In one message, he wrote, “Words will never ever explain how sorry I am. I can’t explain what happened cos I physically can’t remember. It’s disgusting and I now have to live with it forever. Losing you and the kids is heartbreaking Lauren, you deserve so much better.”
Westerman also issued a public apology, stating, “Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly apologise to my family and friends for my actions. I’d also like to apologise to the supporters, sponsors, staff, and directors of Castleford Tigers as well as my teammates. I’d like to extend this apology to the game of rugby league, and I have realised that I need to work on my decision-making around alcohol.”
A new chapter for Joe Westerman
Westerman, who made his breakthrough in 2007 with Castleford, has had a successful career in rugby, playing for Hull, Warrington, Toronto, and Wakefield before returning to Castleford in 2022. He also has two senior international caps for England, earned in 2014 and 2021.
Despite the scandal, Westerman appears to be moving on with his life and embracing his new relationship with Alison Hopkins. As he continues his rugby career, fans will be watching to see how he navigates the challenges that come with being in the public eye.
