The High Court overturned the NIA Court’s decision to condemn him to life in jail and impose a substantial punishment of Rs. 5 crore. Justices AS Supehia and MR Mengedey ruled in favor of Salla, directing the refund of the imposed fine if it had already been paid by him.

Additionally, the court has given directives regarding the compensation paid to crew members and the handling of confiscated properties. The crew members are required to pay back any compensation they may have earned as a result of the Trial Court’s directives. Alternatively, the State is allowed to pay for this compensation, although it may later be recouped from the crew members.

Birju Salla is an Indian businessman. He has been in the news because he was acquitted after the Gujarat High Court overturned his conviction under the 2016 Anti-Hijacking Act.
He is reportedly a multi-millionaire jeweler with a residence in an upscale area of Mumbai. Police records disclosed that he is from the Amreli district’s Dedan village in Gujarat and is a member of the Parajiya Soni community of goldsmiths.
Birju Salla is the son of Kishorebhai, a well-known businessman and the head of a family-run organization with offices in Zaveri Bazar.
Apart from the jewelry business, they own two flats in Shreepati Arcade and a variety of enterprises, including ones dealing with real estate, gold, and even the sale of khakhras, a Gujarati delicacy. In a lot of social media images, Salla may be seen taking pictures with famous people.
Birju Salla is also identified in several online photographs as a trustee of the Mumbai-area Bright Start Fellowship International School, which is close to August Kranti Maidan.
Birju Salla’s troubles began when, during his frequent flights from Mumbai to Delhi, he fell in love with a Jet Airways customer care executive and they began having an affair in 2017, but the businessman quickly became frustrated with how little time they spent together. He felt that her job was always getting in the way of their love, so in July of 2017 he secretly married her – although he was already married and had two children – and asked her to move to Mumbai with him but she refused, and that’s when he allegedly hatched a ridiculously stupid plan to get her fired.
Birju Salla’s second wife, who was reportedly fired by Jet Airways shortly after the 2017 incident was devastated by the news that her husband would be spending the rest of her life behind bars, and her family called the decision a great injustice.
