The Hockey Asian Champions Trophy initially started out in 2011 and first took place every year from 2011 to 2013. The competition then took a brief hiatus during 2014 and 2015 before taking place again in 2016, 2018, 2021 and now 2023.
As such, this year’s competition marks the seventh edition so far, with only three teams out of the eight teams that have competed winning the title.
Asian Champions Trophy most successful sides
Up until now, India and Pakistan are the joint most successful sides, having won the competition three times each. Interestingly, the nations shared the trophy once after the final got cancelled due to rain. Behind them are South Korea, who lifted the ACT title in 2021. Meanwhile, Pakistan and Japan holds the record for the most runners up finishes, having lost in the ACT final twice. India also has finished runners up once so far.
ACT teams with most third-place finishes
Malaysia currently have the record for the most number of third-place finishes in the competition. They have finished as the third-placed team on five editions, having beaten Japan and China twice and South Korea once. The only other team is India who won the third-place playoff after beating Pakistan.

Hockey India has decided to reward individual players with a maximum of USD 60,000 each if they win the tournament. The Chinese Hockey Association has decided to give USD 50,000 to each player of the Chinese hockey team should they emerge victorious in the tournament but an official prize money of the event hasn’t been revealed.
The reported amounts that each player can receive from their respective associations upon winning the tournament are as follows: USD 25,000 for the Japanese players, USD 15,000 for the Malaysian players, USD 5,000 for South Korean players and USD 3,500 for the Pakistani players.
