Designing the opulent settings for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Jodha Akbar, Lagaan, and Devdas made Desai famous. Additionally, he contributed to the production of films including 1942: A Love Story, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Baadshah, Munnabhai M.B.B.S., and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai. Desai most recently served as the art director for the high-budget films Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo and Panipat.

Chandrakant Ganpat Desai and Meena Chandrakant Desai welcomed a son, Nitin Chandrakant Desai, into the world. Later, Nitin married with Naina Nitin Desai, who, like him, is a producer in the film industry. Together, they raised a son and a daughter, embracing the rewards and difficulties of motherhood. Mansi Desai, their daughter, is employed by Mold3D as a production coordinator.
In terms of family, Nitin Desai was not only a husband and a father, but he also had a sister named Vaishali and a brother who played a significant role in his life. The family of Nitin Chandrakant Desai resided together.
Professional career
Over a two-decade span, Desai’s artistic ambitions came into contact with renowned filmmakers like Ashutosh Gowarikar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. With the release of “Desh Devi,” a devotional movie homage to the venerated Devi Mata of Kutch, in 2002, under the auspices of Chandrakant Productions, he embarked on a new artistic path.
Nitin Desai’s outstanding art directing abilities received widespread acclaim, earning him four prestigious National Film Awards for Best Art Directing and three Filmfare Best Art Direction Awards. In Karjat, Navi Mumbai, not far from the busy metropolis of Mumbai, his limitless idea came to life as ND Studios, a vast complex spanning 52 acres.
Social media mourns over Desai’s death
Initial evidence suggests that he committed suicide, but authorities are still looking into the matter in an effort to learn the truth. Social media platforms saw an outpouring of sorrow and tributes as word of Nitin Desai’s passing spread throughout the business and beyond. Distinguished members of the film community gathered to pay their last respects to the renowned art director and to share their most treasured memories of him.
Mansi Desai, the daughter of the art director declared in a statement that her father would fulfil all of his commitments to pay. She emphasised that he had no desire to defraud anyone. She said in the statement obtained by ANI that ND Studios was closed and there was no work because of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2016 and 2018, the business of the art director, ND’s Art World, obtained two loans from ECL Finance totalling about Rs 185 crore.
According to a PTI report, payback issues started in January 2020, one month before the statewide COVID-19 lockout. She added that her father had already repaid 86.31 crores of a loan he had taken out from a company in the amount of Rs 181 crore. Mansi also pleaded with the media to refrain from speaking negatively about her late father and to stop disseminating untrue information.
