After having a similar health scare at Wimbledon, Chinese tennis player Yibing Wu collapsed on the court at the Citi Open in Washington on Monday.

The 23-year-old Wu was ahead 4-1 in his first-round match against Yosuke Watanuki of Japan when he collapsed on the chair as he was making his way to his corner. Authorities rushed into action, but Wu was unable to continue since he was out of condition.

The temperature was reportedly 91 degrees Fahrenheit when Wu collapsed, indicating the intense heat in Washington at the time.
In his first-round Wimbledon encounter against Frances Tiafoe at the All England club earlier in July, Wu, the 90th in the world ranking player experienced a similar fright. He collapsed on the court that time due to respiratory problems, but he was able to get up. He returned to the game after receiving medical attention, but he lost 6-7, 3-6, 4-6.
Who is Wu Yibing?
Chinese tennis player Wu Yibing was born on October 14, 1999. He is currently ranked as high as World No. 54 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a position he first obtained on 10 April 2023, making him the second-ranked male Chinese player in history, just behind Zhang Zhizhen.
On April 23, 2018, he attained a career-high doubles ranking of No. 295. At the 2023 Dallas Open, Wu became the first Chinese man to compete in and win an ATP Tour-level singles final. Wu became the top junior player in the world according to the ITF Junior Circuit rankings after winning the boys’ singles title at the 2017 US Open. Wu represented China in the 2017 Davis Cup, going 1-0 with win-loss record. He beat Jason Jung in his first Davis Cup match.
