Nigeria was fighting for victory in their clash against co-hosts Australia when the Barcelona forward capitalized on an error by the Australian defense to score her team’s third goal. Notably, Oshoala scored immediately after coming from the bench to give her team the much needed two-goal cushion and accomplish the incredible comeback. Although Australia managed to lead thanks to a goal from Emily van Egmond just before half-time, Nigeria quickly equalized through Uchenna Kanu. Immediately after the break, Nigeria took the lead with a goal from Osinachi Ohale. Meanwhile, second-half substitute Oshoala added the cherry on top by making it 3-1 in her country’s favor. During the stoppage time, Australia made it 2-3 with a goal from Alana Kennedy but it wasn’t enough to earn any points from the game.
