In the previous chapter we witnessed, Maru was fighting an extraordinarily powerful serpent monster when, in a moment of carelessness, the monster captured him and attempted to absorb him. Maru was about to chop off his leg in order to injure the monster since he was worried it would hurt his friends and sister if he didn’t, when a third, unknown monster who could talk, appeared and human intervened spared him.
