On August 5, 2012, Geetika Sharma committed suicide at her father’s Ashok Vihar home in northwest Delhi.

On Tuesday, Gopal Goyal Kanda, a former Haryana minister, and his assistant Aruna Chadha were cleared of all charges by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court.

The former Haryana minister, Gopal Goyal Kanda, was cleared of all charges because the prosecution “failed to prove the charges beyond all reasonable doubts” in the case of air hostess Geetika Sharma’s suicide.ย 

Kanda is the head of the Haryana Lokhit Party and an MLA from the Sirsa assembly constituency in Haryana. He is a prominent politician and businessman.

Additionally, his assistant, Aruna Chadha, was also cleared of charges. As a condition of the acquittal, the court ordered the two accused to post a personal bond of $1 lakh and remain present.

The Suicide Case Of Air Hostess Geetika Sharma From 2012ย 

Air hostess Geetika Sharma was eventually promoted to director of one of Gopal Kanda’s corporate offices in Gurgaon while working for MDLR Airlines. The aviation company was owned by Gopal Kanda.

The suicide of 23-year-old Geetika Sharma, a former employee of an airline, and the role of Haryana minister Gopal Kanda as an abetter, have drawn the eyeballs.

Geetika’s mother, who was a retired accountant in the finance ministry, also committed suicide after six months of Geetika’s death. The family claimed that heartbreak and harassment from police and court proceedings were the reason behind her step. Her brother Ankit Sharma, an employee at a private firm, said his sister’s memories still haunt him and the drive for justice kept him going through the legal ordeal all these years.

Sharma committed suicide on August 5, 2012, at her father’s Ashok Vihar home in northwest Delhi. She said in her two-page suicide note that Kanda and his colleague Aruna Chadha had harassed her and that this was why she was taking her own life.

Chadha was detained on August 8, 2012, whereas Kanda was charged by the Delhi Police in the case under several sections.ย

Kanda, a home minister in the previous Haryana Congress administration led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, was compelled to retire as a result of the filing of the complaint. Additionally, he had portfolios for urban bodies, businesses, and industries.

The Delhi High Courts Verdict

Anuradha Sharma, a retired accountant in the finance ministry also committed suicide six months after Sharma did. She attributed her suicide to Kanda’s harassment in the note she left behind.ย 

The Delhi High Court eventually dismissed the charges by overlooking the suicides.ย
