The 2018 world champion, four-time Premier League champion playing for Manchester City, and French Ligue 1 champion with Monaco in particular, joins to bolster the Lorient team for the upcoming campaign after passing the customary medical assessment. Today at Espace FCL, the Longjumeau native who will wear the number 5 for the Merlus took his first steps.
While he has signed a contract till 2025 with the club, his salary isn’t known. He has a net worth of $30 million.
Mendy was cleared of all allegations
Mendy sobbed last Friday at Chester Crown Court as the “not guilty” judgement brought an almost three-year-long case to an end. Numerous times, he has been charged with r*pe, attempted r*pe, and s*xual assault. He was cleared of six counts of r*pe and one count of assault in January of this year following a five-month trial.
The jury’s failure to reach a verdict on two charges involving two women called for a new trial. Mendy was found not guilty of all the accusations levelled against him on Friday by the jury, which included six men and six women.
Mendy praised the jury for focusing on the evidence in this case rather than the rumours and innuendo that have surrounded this case from the beginning via his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire, who is in charge of serious and general crime at Hickman & Rose, after the verdict was revealed.
Despite the fact that police have been investigating this case for almost three years, Mendy is pleased that both juries reached the correct conclusions. The process has unavoidably had a bad impact on the player, despite his best efforts to keep his composure. He thanks everyone for their assistance during this trying period and asks for privacy so he can rebuild his life.
Time to start from scratch
Mendy moved from Monaco to Manchester City for $52 million in 2017, signing a contract that paid him £100,000. However, the player was not extended and let go for free when his contract expired at the end of June. He finished his career with City in August 2021.
The left-back, who previously played for Le Havre, Marseille, and Monaco, has signed a two-year contract with Lorient, marking his return to France. He was a key member of the Monaco team that shocked French football in 2017 by winning Ligue 1 and making the Champions League semifinals.
Given that Mendy was released by City, Lorient was able to gain his signature without having to pay a transfer fee.
