2023 Vitality Blast final Somerset vs Essex Eagles winner, result, score, & best performers

With the support of Ish Sodhi, Lewis Gregory, & Matt Henry Somerset managed to dismantle Essex’s batting order in the 2023 Vitality Blast final and successfully defended 145-runs. However, Daniel Sams made sure that the contest lasted all the way to the end. With one wicket left, Essex needed 15-runs from 11 deliveries and Somerset were under pressure but, Tom Cohler-Cadmore managed an incredible one-handed diving catch. Thanks to this, Somerset won the championship match by 14-runs and clinched their first title in 18 years.

Despite their initial struggle against Essex, Somerset relied on Sean Dickson’s 53-run knock to reach a respectable score of 145-runs. With three wickets each, Shane Snater and Paul Walter led Essex’s bowling attack as Somerset frequently lost wickets. In response, Essex’s innings got off to a terrible start as they lost first five wickets for 55-runs in just eight overs. Although Sams dropped a masterclass by scoring 45-runs in just 26 deliveries, it wasn’t enough as Somerset cruised to victory.

Vitality Blast 2023: list of champions

With three titles apiece, Leicestershire and Hampshire are this prestigious competition’s most successful teams. By winning the title twice, Somerset has equaled the record of Kent, Northants, & Notts. Meanwhile, Essex, Surrey, Sussex, Middlesex, Birmingham, Lancashire, & Middlesex have all won the championship once apiece.

The tournament-winning team will get a £175k prize share and will also get a National Insurance £24,150 prize and £81,060 payout for the County Performance. The tournament runner-up team will fill their bags with an amount of £78k.
