2023 Asian Athletics Championships schedule, date, venue, & medal favorites
While athletes like Neeraj Chopra, Jesvin Aldrin, & Avinash Sable won’t be competing at the 24th Asian Athletics Championships, India will be represented by athletes like Murali Sreeshankar, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, & Jyothi Yarraji. Chopra, the current Olympic champion, isn’t competing since he’s getting ready for the Budapest World Championships in August. Unfortunately, numerous athletes are planning to forego the continental championship because it takes place one month before the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. With season leader Shaili Singh and Ancy Sojan in the squad, India can aim for two medals in the women’s long jump.
With pull-outs and dope flunks, India’s preparation for the competition was far from ideal, but shot putter Toor and long jumper Sreeshankar will be trying to make a difference. Recently, shot putter Karanveer Singh, failed an out-of-competition dope test. Meanwhile, sprinter Anjali Devi, who won the women’s 400m gold at the National Inter-State Championships with an amazing timing of 51.48 seconds in her debut race after an injury layoff of more than three years, was also found to be doping. Elsewhere, Jesvin Aldrin, Praveen Chitravel, & gold contender Rohit Yadav all withdrew from the continental championship due to injury.
