From July 12 to July 16, 2023, India will host the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. The events will be held at the Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida. Notably, the 2021 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships saw India bag total of sixteen medals including four gold medals.

According to the team announced by the Indian Weightlifting Federation on Thursday, the Indian challenge will be led by 2019 champion Jhilli Dalabehera, 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Lovepreet Singh, & 2021 champion Purnima Pandey. Notably, a total of twenty weightlifters will represent India in this event. Additionally, 2021 Commonwealth Games silver medalists Popy Hazarika and Harjinder Kaur have announced their participation. However, 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai Chanu, as well as Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Achinta Sheuli have decided to skip this event.
At the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in 2023, around 250 weightlifters representing 20 nations will compete for medals. It is confirmed that weightlifting competitions for juniors & youths will also be held concurrently with the senior championship. Since the event’s debut in 1980, India has hosted the championships only once in 2015 and this will be the second edition inside India.
