National Level Gold Medalist Wrestler Nisha Dahiya And Her Brother Shot Dead In Haryana’s Sushil Kumar Wrestling Academy

Nisha Dahiya, a national level wrestler and her brother were both shot dead today in Haryana, Sonipat

In the news last week after she brought home the bronze medal in the 65kg category at the Wrestling U23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, tragedy has befallen on Nisha Dahiya. The national level gold medalist wrestler was shot dead along with her brother at the Sushil Kumar Academy in Sonipat’s Halalpur in Haryana.

While the reason behind the crime is yet to be ascertained, unknown assailants fired at Nisha, her brother and her mother Dhanpati who is currently severely injured and in critical condition. She is Only last Friday, Nisha was currently in Rohtak’s PGI Hospital where she is being treated upon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had only eight hours prior to her death lauded the wrestler for her international achievement.

“Congratulations to Shivani, Anju, Divya, Radhika and Nisha for winning medals at the Wrestling Championships in Belgrade. Their performance is special and will contribute to wrestling becoming even more popular across India,” the Prime Minister had tweeted.

Nisha Dahiya had won two gold medals at the cadet National Championships along with a medal in the Asian Championships in the 49kg category. She had also won the silver medal in the 60kg category in while she had won bronze at the National Championships.

Police are said to have reached the crime scene instantly and are currently conducting an investigation to identity the shooters and the reason of the shooting in a bid to snag the culprits. Nisha’s family or the police are yet to issue a statement on the entire set of events.
