Over 11 million teams registered for the previous season, and Ali Jahangirov, an Azerbaijani Arsenal supporter, came out on top and was crowned the winner. There will probably be even more participants this time.
To improve your ranking, you must be aware of the regulations, the fundamental points system, any changes made for the current season, and the strategies used by seasoned players like Jahangirov to stand out from the crowd.
Making a team
The fundamentals of the game remain unchanged. A squad of 15 players, including two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders, and three attackers, must be chosen from a starting budget of £100 million.
Create your Starting XI
Each gameweek, you can select one of the following formations for your starting lineup: 3-5-2; 3-4-3; 4-5-1; 4-4-2; 4-3-3; 5-4-1; 5-3-2; 5-2-3. A goalkeeper, at least three defenders, two midfielders, and one forward are required. The most common and successful formations in previous seasons appear to have been 3-5-2 and 3-4-3.
You can choose your starting XI, captain, and vice-captain for each gameweek on the ‘My Team’ tab as well as make as many changes to your team as you’d like before the Gameweek 1 deadline via the ‘Transfers’ tab. The player’s actual number of points for that gameweek is doubled when they are your captain. Your vice-captain’s points are doubled if your captain is absent from the game.
After selecting your starting lineup, you must order your bench for automatic substitutes. If your starting goalkeeper doesn’t play, your backup will take over at the end of the gameweek, assuming he did. As long as this doesn’t violate the aforementioned formation restrictions, your highest-priority outfield substitute who did appear on the field during that gameweek will replace any of your outfield starters who are unable to play.

FPL points are awarded to players for clean sheets, assists, goals, and saves. The scoring structure is broken down below, have a look:

They may also be awarded extra points for strong performance under the FPL extra Points System (BPS). The top three performers in each game receive an additional three, two, and one points, respectively.
Making transfers
After the season begins, you are allowed to use one free transfer per gameweek. If a manager doesn’t utilise their free transfer in one week, they can carry it over to the next and get two more free transfers. However, you are only ever granted two free transfers.
You can transfer as many players as you like each gameweek as long as you stay within your budget; but, every move you make that goes over your free transfer allowance will cost you four points. Also, keep in mind that the deadline is always 90 minutes prior to the first kickoff of every gameweek. Therefore, keep an eye out for the Friday night games.
Mini Leagues
FPL is all about participating in small leagues with friends, family, and coworkers. You can join and start mini leagues after creating your team. The Classic and Head-to-Head leagues are open to managers’ creation or entry.
In the classic league format, which lasts the entire season, the manager who has the most points overall when the last round of matches is played in May wins. Each gameweek in the Head-to-Head format, an FPL team competes against another team in the league. The scores of each team are used to determine the outcome of the match, minus any transfer points spent.
Similar to a “real” league, Head-to-Head managers receive three points for a victory, one for a tie, and none for a defeat. At the end of the season, the manager with the most points (as opposed to FPL points) wins. The manager with the most FPL points overall wins if two or more managers finish with the same number of league points. A mini league can have as many participants as it wants, but managers are only allowed to play in a maximum of 25 mini leagues.
Price changes
Throughout the season, player prices change dependent on the transfer activity of FPL managers. A player’s price will rise if they are a popular transfer target for many managers. Similar to this, a player’s price may drop if they are being moved out in large numbers. A player’s value can change by no more than £0.1 million every day and no more than £0.3 million from one gameweek to the next.
For instance, if you pay £7.5 million for Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic at his starting price and he later increases to £8.0 million, you would collect £7.7 million if you sold him at that price.
Chips
To increase their scores throughout the season, FPL managers can use the following five chips:
- Triple Captain: Instead of receiving double credit for the gameweek, your captained player receives triple credit.
- Bench Boost: In the gameweek where you use this chip, all of your substitutes score points.
- Free Hit: For the gameweek in which you play this chip, choose a completely fresh team with no points deducted. The original lineup of your squad will return for the upcoming gameweek.
- Wildcard: Playing the wildcard with no point deductions allows you to fully overhaul your team (make as many moves as you want). Two wildcards are available to managers each season, and the first one must be used by gameweek 20 (December 30). After Gameweek 20, the second is accessible until the end of the campaign.
A gameweek can only have one chip played.
Changes this season
The standard game hasn’t seen any fresh modifications. The point system and all of the chips stay the same.
