In a recent interview, Arun Govil, who rose to prominence for his portrayal of Lord Ram, stated that Ramanad Sagar turned him down for the role. His sons, Prem Sagar, Moti Sagar, and Anand Sagar, wanted him to play Bharat and Lakshman. He was confident, though, that he would not play any other character other than Ram. Ramanand Sagar appointed him after a few days.

Today, Monday, July 3, Ramanand Sagar’s renowned Hindi show ‘Ramayan’ will return to television. Ramanand Sagar’s classic TV show, featuring Arun Govil (Ram) and Dipika Chikhlia (Sita), will be telecasted on July 3 at 7:30 pm on Shemaroo TV.
Veteran actor Arun Govil, who played Lord Ram in the show, explained how he became involved.
It Is worth noting that Ramayan was broadcast in 55 countries. This won the show nearly 650 million views. It is stated that when the show aired, the streets of the cities were deserted, and neighbors gathered in homes with televisions to watch the show. It was the only TV serial that aired for 45 minutes when it first aired.
Earlier, in an interview while having a conversation with ANI Govil revealed that he begins his career in acting with Rajshri Pictures and Sagar Saheb in 1977. “When I got to know that Sagar Saheb is making Ramayan, I myself approached him because I wanted to play the character of Lord Ram,” he revealed.
“However, working in mythology was not a very standard thing at that time. I did a lot of commercial films. My friends and family said don’t do it is not good for you,” he informed.
Despite the advice of others, Govil was determined to play Lord Ram on screen and attended an audition, where he was turned down.
“His sons Prem Sagar, Moti Sagar, and Anand Sagar asked me to play the characters of Bharat and Lakshman, but I said, ‘I want to play the role of Lord Ram and if I am not suitable for it, that’s fine,’” Govil explained.
