Is Kyrie Irving a Drew League player?

Irving has declared publicly that he will play this summer in the Drew League.  Irving can be heard telling one of the event organisers in a video that was shared on Twitter that he intends to take part in 2023.  According to Law Murray of The Athletic, he will play for the Nationwide Souljas in the Alvin Wills Division. In July, his league debut is anticipated. Irving attended the first games of the season, which began on June 10 and will last for around 13 weeks, over the weekend.

Last year, the eight-time All-Star and LeBron James, his friend and former colleague, were also anticipated to compete together. But even though James did show up as promised, he never did. According to league commissioner Dino Smiley, “They were pretty sure he was coming. But you know Kyrie, right? I suppose he had a change of heart in the middle of it.”

The event, which involves several professionals fighting alongside some of the best amateur players from across the world, should fit Irving’s flamboyant handles and electrifying style of play just right. At King/Drew Magnet High School in Compton, Los Angeles, California, the games will be held.

What exactly is the Drew League?

In order to provide a setting for the people of South-Central LA to interact and form bonds over their mutual passion for basketball, the Drew League was established in 1973. It has gradually developed into something much larger over time, producing some of the world’s top hoopers.

According to Smiley, the league’s current commissioner and one of its founders, “that gym had wooden backboards, no padding on the walls, and no breakaway rims.” People used to line the walls of this tiny gym before there were [NBA] players merely to see some of the locals play. The league will include 22 teams divided into two divisions in 2023. From June 10 to early September, games will be played throughout the summer.
