The Oslo Diamond League 2023 will feature some of the world’s biggest track and field stars on Thursday (16 June).

The upcoming Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway marks the fifth stop on the 2023 Diamond League calendar.

Oslo Diamond League 2023 competition preview

Going into the competition, local heroes Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Karsten Warholm are set to lead the charge on the track. Wayde van Niekerk, the South African world record holder, and rising U.S. sprinting star Erriyon Knighton will join alongside them. Meanwhile, Dutch star Femke Bol will also be looking to continue her excellent start to the season so far.

Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis who is the pole vault world record holder will attract strong attention infield. Other top athletes include Venezuelan triple jump queen Yulimar Rojas, and American throwing aces Valarie Allman (discus) and Chase Ealey (shot put).

The upcoming Oslo Diamond League 2023, also called the Bislett Games, will take place on Thursday, 15 June. The famous Bislett stadium in Oslo, Norway, which has hosted the Bislett Games since 1965, will also serve as the venue for this year’s event.

Oslo Diamond League 2023 stars to watch

The upcoming competition has several stars to watch starting with Norwegian superstar Jakob Ingebrigtsen on the track. The Olympic champion will be looking to run his first outdoor 1500m race of the season, and dominate against other runners like Kenyans Abel Kipsang and Timothy Cheruiyot.

Meanwhile, fellow Norwegian Karsten Warholm, who is the 400m hurdles world record holder will make his outdoor debut. He will be competing against other star athletes like world bronze medallist Trevor Bassitt, and fellow Americans CJ Allen and Khallifa Rosser.

Armand Duplantis is also another star worth watching in pole vaulting. Other athletes in that event include Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen, Christopher Nilsen, and Olympic champions Renaud Lavillenie and Thiago Braz.

South African 400m world record holder Wayde van Niekerk will compete against four athletes that have dipped below 44 seconds. These include Kirani James, the London 2012 Olympic champion, Anthony Zambrano and Muzala Samukonga, the Zambian rising star.

Meanwhile, in the women’s field, is Yulimar Rojas, the three-time world champion, who will open her season in the hop, skip and jump. Valarie Allman, the Olympic discus throw champion is also a star worth watching. Dutch runner Femke Bol is another name worth watching who will compete in the 400m hurdles.
