In the opening round of Norway Chess 2023, GM Fabiano Caruana defeated the defending champion Magnus Carlsen thanks to his stellar play and similarly, Indian prodigy Gukesh dropped a masterclass to defeat Alireza Firouzja. Following their resounding victories in the classical portion, Caruana and Gukesh are sitting at the top with three points each. Meanwhile, Anish Giri, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, & Wesley So won their respective ties through the Armageddon match and earned 1.5 points from the opening round. However, pre-tournament favorite Magnus Carlsen is currently at the bottom-place with one loss from as many games.
On Wednesday, the second-round of the 2023 Norway Chess will played and it will feature Fabiano Caruana against Anish Giri in an eagerly awaited contest. Similarly, Magnus Carlsen will attempt to earn his victory of the tournament when he plays against American GM Wesley So. Elsewhere, Indian star Gukesh will face-off against seasoned veteran Hikaru Nakamura.

From May 30 to June 9, the 11th Norway Chess Super Tournament will take place, and the tournament’s organizers have announced an excellent lineup. There will be an equal split of the prize money given to each participant who earns the same number of points. But the top reward won’t be affected by this. The prize money will be given out in the following ways, and it is known that the tournament’s entire prize pool is 2,500,000 NOK:
