Josef Newgarden began his career at the early age of 13 with kart racing. Within just three years, he won the TAG Junior World Championship and won two Yamaha Junior Championship titles. Josef began with the Skip Barber Racing School series in 2006, where he had several successes. Later in 2008, he competed in Formula Ford races.
A year later, he finished as the runner-up in the British Formula Ford Championship. Later in 2009, Newgarden managed to win twice in the Formula Palmer Audi. He then moved to the GP3 series, in the following year.
After his time in Europe, he made a return to the United States where he joined to Indy Lights Series in 2011. Later that same year in December, Josef became an Indycar driver for Team Penske. He eventually signed a multi-year contract in 2012 to compete professionally in the NTT Indycar Series.
Throughout his career, Newgarden has previously won the 2017 and 2019 IndyCar Series competition. He also secured the 2011 Indy Lights title, and most recently won the 2023 Indianapolis 500.
