Although the official date for the IPL 2024 auction is not yet known, previous seasons might be used as a guide. The IPL 2023 auction was placed on December 16, 2022, in Bangalore, just over three months before the competition was set to begin.

Therefore, we may assume that the IPL 2024 auction will happen towards the end of 2023.

When is the IPL 2024 season?

While the IPL 2023 calendar was recently made public in February, barely in time for the March 31 season launch, the IPL 2024 schedule has not yet been formally released. It is projected to run for about two months and begin near the end of March 2024.

How much money did each team get at the IPL 2023 auction?

IPL franchises are each allocated Rs 80 crore to assemble the best possible squad out of players from around the world, including foreign players and Indian players with and without caps.

Teams are not required to use their entire 80 crore rupee budget, but according to the rules, at least 75% (or 60 crore) must go to the players. A franchise’s best five players may receive between 30 and 40% of its money.

What are the different categories of players in the IPL auctions in 2023?

Capped Players 

Indian players who have at least once competed for their nation’s senior squad in any format are included as capped players.

Uncapped players

Indian domestic athletes who have never competed at the senior level for their nation.

Non-Indian/Foreign/Overseas players

These players may represent a nearby or neighbouring cricket nation that has received caps, has not received caps, or is an associate nation. It actually doesn’t matter whatever group or division a player belongs to.

Eight international players are the maximum that can be a part of an IPL side, and only four of them are allowed to play at once.

How many players are listed in the 2023 auction?

There is no limit to the number of players who may be listed at an IPL auction, which changes from year to year. The number of players displayed will depend on who signs up and are accepted by their respective boards and/or nations.

What are the player retention policies in the IPL 2023?

Each franchise may retain up to five players in accordance with the “right-to-match” (RTM) rule and the pre-auction retention procedure.

A squad may retain a maximum of two foreign and uncapped Indian players in addition to no more than three Indians with caps. RTM is a tool that teams can use to ensure that a player will be retained if a rival matches their offer.
