Austrian F1 Track
- Zeltweg Air Bag
The first championship event took place in 1963 in the Zeltweg Air Bag and Italian Lorenzo Bandini won his only Formula One championship race in a Ferrari. The race was a success, yet the track was deemed too dangerous; it was narrow and very bumpy, and spectators complained of poor viewing areas. As a result, to this, F1 removed this calendar from the F1 calendar until it was re-built with safety measures.
- Osterreichring
This circuit was used from 1969 to 1987 to stage the Australian Grand Prix in the Formula 1 calendar. However, lack of protection from trees and embankments and accidents at the start of many races on the narrow and confined pit straight. Increasing speeds were also a growing problem at the Osterreichring, which eventually ed the authorities to make the necessary changes.
- A1 Ring
After the rebuilt of Osterreichring, Spielberg was eventually given as the site of the Grand Prix with A1 Ring. The A1-Ring hosted seven Austrian GPs between 1997-2003, with two wins apiece for Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher.
- Red Bull Ring
The A1 Ring was not a money maker however, and was removed from the calendar for 2004 because of Austria’s support for anti-tobacco legislation in the EU. In 2013 it was revealed that circuit’s new owners Red Bull GmbH had reached an agreement with former F1 owner, Bernie Ecclestone to revive the Austrian Grand Prix after a ten-year absence from the calendar.
