Officials said that a stampede at a football stadium in El Salvador on Saturday night claimed many lives. According to local media, the incident took occurred in Cuscatlan’s Monumental Stadium in the country’s capital, San Salvador. Initial reports indicated that nine people had died, but later local media increased that number to 12. In addition, more than 100 people were hurt in the rush, and they were carried to various hospitals and medical facilities throughout the city.

The emergency teams had been sent out.
“At this time, we can confirm 3 fatalities in one of the public sun entry points from the Cuscatlán Stadium. According to early reports, there was a stampede of spectators trying to get inside to see the match between Alianza and FAS,” PNC tweeted. “We are speeding up ambulance entry and egress from the Cuscatlán Stadium. We request that people disperse so that ambulances may pass,” they continued.
Francisco Alabi, the minister of health for El Salvador, reports that rescue crews have been dispatched and that the injured are being taken to local hospitals. He asked the public to enable access to health teams, exit the area with prudence, and make it simpler for the personnel to more readily meet all the area’s medical care needs.
What led to the stampede?
After spectators attempted to enter the Cuscatlan stadium in San Salvador’s capital to see the football game between Alianza FC and FAS on Saturday night, a rush broke out. The stadium was holding a match in the first round between two well-liked teams from El Salvador’s top league.
It was an avalanche of fans who overran the gate, a volunteer with the Rescue Commandos first aid team who wished to remain anonymously told journalists. In the tunnel, several were still hidden behind the metal. Others made it to the stands before making it to the pitch, where they were suffocated.

The Cuscatlan Stadium incident was “deeply regrettable,” according to the Salvadoran Football Federation.
