As Kiren Rijiju was abruptly ousted from the prominent ministry, bureaucrat-turned-politician Arjun Ram Meghwal took over as minister of law and justice on Thursday.
Rijiju, who had a short tenure in the Law Ministry and saw several run-ins with the court system, has been handed the Earth Sciences Ministry. Immediately after taking office, Meghwal announced that he would prioritize ensuring prompt justice for everyone and that there would be no conflict with the court.

Who is Arjun Ram Meghwal?
Arjun Ram Meghwal is a well-known Indian bureaucrat-turned-politician who has been associated with the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). He has been in the news because he was appointed minister of law and justice in the Union cabinet.
He was born on December 20, 1953, in Bikaner, Rajasthan, India. His father’s name is Lakhu Ram Meghwal, and his mother’s name is Hira Devi.
After completing his schooling and graduating, Arjun Ram Meghwal did an MA in Political Science. Later, he also earned an LLB degree from Dungar College in Bikaner. Subsequently, he went on to attend the University of Philippines in the Philippines, where he earned an MBA degree. He cracked UPSC and went on to become an IAS officer in the Rajasthan Cadre.
He is married, and his wife’s name is Pana Devi. They are the parents of two children: two sons and two daughters. He is currently 69 years old and is a Hindu by religion.
His career
Before becoming a politician, Arjun Ram Meghwal successfully passed the RAS Exams, was chosen for the Rajasthan Udhyog Seva, and was appointed to various prestigious positions. After being chosen for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the 1999 batch, he went on to hold a number of administrative positions. However, he eventually took voluntary retirement from the Indian administrative service to enter politics.
In 2009, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Bikaner Constituency, representing the BJP. In the subsequent general election of 2014, he secured re-election from the Bikaner constituency.
During his second term, he held the position of Chief Whip of the BJP in Lok Sabha and was also appointed Chairman of the House Committee by the Speaker of Lok Sabha. In May 2019, he assumed the role of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and was entrusted with the portfolios of heavy industries and public enterprises. Now, he also becomes the minister of law and justice.
