In the middle of a rainstorm during the Southeast Asian Games, Cambodian athlete Bou Samnang won the hearts of spectators with a magnificent display of tenacity and will.
Her indomitable attitude won her a special place in the hearts of fans and enormous acclaim, despite the fact that she came in last in the women’s 5,000-meter event. Samnang persisted in facing the weather despite the constant downpour and crossed the finish line about six minutes after the race’s winner.

Soon, she was met with applause and cheers from the audience, including esteemed members of the International Olympic Committee. She finished the marathon in a time of 22:54 but was overcome with emotion and shed a few tears.
Bou Samnang acknowledged the spectators’ support with a touching gesture of thanks as she proudly raised the Cambodian flag with her raised palms. Her emotional reaction to finishing the marathon was captured on camera, and videos of it rapidly went viral.
Her incredible display of fortitude did not go unnoticed. She received praise from Khieu Kanharith, the Minister of Communication, for her reluctance to give up in the face of severe downpours and was given a bonus of $250 (20,000 rupees). In addition, Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his gratitude for Samnang’s amazing resolve and promised to give her $10,000.
