Jigna Vora
The character of Jagruti Pathak in “Scoop” is based on a real-life incident that happened with former journalist Jigna Vora.
In the web series, the names of most of the characters and the magazines Jigna Vora or Jagruti Pathak worked for have been altered. However, Chhota Rajan’s name is still used in the teaser for the program. In the show, Karishma Tanna plays journalist Jagruti Pathak, who is charged with aiding Rajan in the murder of Jaideb Sen, a competitor and senior colleague.
In reality, Jigna Vora is a former journalist based in Mumbai. She mostly covered crime beats wherever she worked. She gained notoriety as a suspect in the murder plot in 2011, when Mid-Day’s senior reporter Jyotirmoy Dey was killed by unidentified gunmen.
While working for Asian Age, she was charged with plotting Dey’s murder alongside Chhota Rajan. The trouble grew for her because, at that time, she had recently conducted an interview with a don. According to the authorities, she allegedly gave Rajan information regarding Dey’s movements, on the basis of which he dispatched his triggermen to kill the journalist.
While the trial went on, Jigna was detained and imprisoned for six years. However, she was cleared of all charges in 2017. According to reports, Jigna is a single parent and is now living her life away from the media spotlight.
