Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener, condemned Suyash Sharma for trying a wide to prevent Yashasvi Jaiswal from reaching his century during Rajasthan’s 9-wicket victory over Kolkata on May 11
Suyash seemed to attempt a wide when RR needed 3 runs.
Did Suyash Sharma deliberately try to bowl a wide ball to deny Yashasvi Jaiswal a century during KKR vs RR IPL 2023 match
In an IPL 2023 encounter against Rajasthan Royals on May 11 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, former India opener Aakash Chopra expressed his displeasure with young Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Suyash Sharma for his attempted wide ball as Yashasvi Jaiswal was approaching his hundred.
During the 13th over Jaiswal was at the non-striker’s end having scored 94 of 46 balls. In the final delivery of the thirteenth over of the chase, the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals played a dot ball. Samson miraculously managed to straight bat a shot from Suyash that was intended to travel down the leg-side and avoid it potentially going for four and a wide.
When the over was done, Suyash Sharma had a cunning smile on his face. Sanju Samson, on the other side, gave Yashasvi Jaiswal the go-ahead to end it with a six in the following over in order to reach his hundred. When Suyash finished his over, RR still needed three runs.
Jaiswal reached 98 unbeaten after hitting a boundary on the first ball of the 14th over. He missed reaching his second hundred by only two runs since he could not hit the winning runs with a six but a four. Despite not having enough runs to reach his second IPL century, Yashasvi was ecstatic as Rajasthan scored 150 runs in just 13.1 overs to secure a decisive victory.
Trying to bowl a wide to prevent Yashasvi from getting to his 100….poor taste IMHO.

When supporters argued against it, Chopra presented a hypothetical scenario to support his position while condemning Suyash Sharma.
Imagine a Pakistan bowler doing that to prevent Kohli from getting to his century. The same people who are giving gyan on how it’s absolutely okay…and that it wasn’t deliberate…will ensure that that bowler starts trending in minutes. Trolling level hi alag hota tab. Typical… https://t.co/u3wwOIV0ro

While captain Samson was still unbeaten on 48 from just 29 balls, Yashasvi Jaiswal was unbeaten on 98 from 5 sixes and 13 boundaries. The 21-year-old opener increased his IPL 2023 total to 575 runs, setting a season record for an uncapped player.
The Rajasthan Royals returned to the top 4 thanks to the significant victory. Rajasthan is in third place and has a chance to make the playoffs with 12 points from 12 games and a healthy NRR.
