Cambodia won the men’s 3×3 basketball competition at the Southeast Asian Games, increasing their gold medal total, while Vietnam won the women’s competition in Phnom Penh. Jessa Khan, who was reared in the United States, was given the challenge of winning gold for her grandmother’s country before the 2023 Southeast Asian Games ever got underway. Although Khan was heartbroken to lose her ne-waza gi 52kg final clash against Jenna Kaila Napolis, she was given another chance at gold medal in ne-waza nogi 52kg event. Meggie Ochoa was Khan’s opponent in the Sunday final and although the Philippian was considered formidable challenger, Khan won with ease and in a boisterous atmosphere that had the Chroy Changvar Centre rocking.
When he steps onto the track for the 400m hurdles at the SEA Games 2023 at the Morodok Techo Athletics Stadium on Thursday, Eric Cray of the Philippines will be looking for his sixth consecutive SEA Games gold. With the Paris 2024 Olympic qualification approaching, the 32nd SEA Games precede an especially demanding year for Asian athletes.
The current leader in the standings is the host nation of Cambodia, which has 74 total medals won, including 30 gold ones. Due to their great performance on Sunday, Thailand increased their medal total to 57 medals, including 16 gold medals, and are now ranked second overall in the medal standings.
