Glen Kuiper: A career in broadcasting
On May 20, 1963, Glen Kuiper, a baseball announcer with the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball, was born.
In addition to occasionally calling games for the Athletics Radio Network, he serves as the principal announcer for A’s games on NBC Sports California.
Glen Kuiper began appearing on A’s TV broadcasts in 2004 and worked as a replacement announcer and on-field journalist for the first two years. He started working for the company in 2006 as the head announcer.
Before heading on to FSN Bay Area, Kuiper anchored “Giants Lite” and “A’s Lite” on SportsChannel Pacific from 1996 through 2000. Along with baseball, he covered multiple NFL games as a sideline reporter for the San Jose Sharks and Fox.

On NBC Sports California on Friday, Kuiper and coworker Dallas Braden discussed a trip to the museum before the A’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
It appears that Kuiper mispronounced the word “negro,” making it sound derogatory.
Later, Kuiper apologised over the air without giving any additional specifics.
