Former captain Virat Kohli was seen engaging in an altercation after the game as the tense exchanges continued. Kohli was seen continuing his on-field conversation with Mishra on the sidelines of the game as the players greeted one another and Naveen-ul-Haq stopped to inflame the situation.
Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir received 100% of the match fees as fines.
They both received fines for violating the IPL Code of Conduct following the match in Lucknow on Monday as a result of the altercation between former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli and Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir. The Level 2 infraction under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct has been admitted by Kohli and Gambhir.
In addition, LSG bowler Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50% of his match fees for a Level 1 infraction for arguing verbally with Kohli during the 17th over of Lucknow’s run-chase.
When the players were shaking hands after the game, it appeared that Naveen and Kohli exchanged a few words, which led to the altercation between the two India veterans who were a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad. Gambhir intervened at this time to maintain order, but when the latter surged back at the former RCB captain, Kohli and Gambhir engaged in a confrontation.
The Lucknow players then attempted to pull Gambhir away, but when they were still close to one another, Kohli appeared to be attempting to calm the situation with some soothing words, but it was ineffective in doing so. At that point, LSG leg-spinner Amit Mishra intervened in an effort to maintain order.
