The 2023 FIBA World Cup draw took place on Saturday, April 29, in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

The Basketball World Cup will be co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10, marking the first time the event has been staged in those three nations.
Spain, which recently made history by surpassing the US in the FIBA standings, will defend the title.
The 32-team pool is made up of 12 teams from Europe, 7 teams from the Americas, 8 teams from Asia (including Australia and New Zealand, who participated in the Asian Qualifiers), and 5 teams from Africa.
Similar to the 2019 edition, the FIBA World Cup 2023 will be divided into three stages: the group stage, the second round, and the championship game.
The draw, made possible by Luis Scola, Jorge Garbajosa, and Dirk Nowitzki, placed the hosts Spain in Group G along with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Cote d’Ivoire, and Brazil.
Along with the Olympic champions United States, Jordan, New Zealand, and Greece are also in Group C, making a matchup with two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo very likely.
The Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia; three nations that didn’t make the cut; will co-host the competition, which begins on August 25 and continues on September 10, with the final taking place in Manila’s Mall of Asia Arena.
Groups could be given teams in advance by the host venues. At the Araneta Coliseum in Manila, the Philippines were assigned to Group A, while the United States was assigned to Group C at the Mall of Asia Area.
Canada will compete in Group H in Jakarta, Indonesia, while Slovenia, captained by Luka Doncic, will compete in Groups E and F in Okinawa, Japan.

FIBA World Cup 2023 full schedule
The first round of the Group Stage will take place from August 25 through August 30.
The dates for the second round are August 31 through September 3.
From September 5 to September 10, the FIBA World Cup’s final round will take place. No times have been confirmed as of yet.
- Quarterfinals: September 5 and September 6.
- Semifinals: September 8.
- Final: September 10.

Viewers in a select nations will be able to follow the action via Courtside 1891 Basketball, a streaming service provided by the FIBA.
Sportsnet broadcasts the games in Canada, while the national network RTVE holds the rights in Spain.
In Australia, ESPN will cover the event, while beIN and France Televisions will split the rights in France. No rights holder has been established for the United States as of the time of this writing.
