The Dutch Open came to an end on 17th October 2021, know the results and prize money of the badminton tournament 

Defending champion Lakshya Sen lost the final against Loh Kean Yew. Know all the details about the final.

Dutch Open 2021 Badminton Final Results 

India’s Lakshya Sen, the defending champion of the Dutch Open, lost to Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the men’s singles final of the Dutch Open 2021 at the Topsportcentrum in Almere, Netherlands on Sunday.

The final lasted for only 36 minutes, in which world number 25 Lakshya Sen was defeated by 41st placed Loh Kean Yew by 21-12, 21-16. In the tournament’s earlier rounds, Sen had managed to win against contenders like Canada’s Xiaodong Sheng, Portugal’s Bernardo Atilano, Belgium’s Julien Carraggi and Singapore’s Jia Heng Teh.

Lakshya Sen, who was the favourite to win the annual badminton tournament this year had been crowned as the men’s singles champion back in 2019. Last year, the 20th edition of the Dutch Open was cancelled because of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic which is still prevalent in many parts of the world. Along with 20-year old Sen, there were 29 other Indians who competed at the Durand Cup which lasted for a total of 5 days.

Men’s Singles Final Match Details

The final began with both the players looking desperate for an early lead. It was Loh Kean who managed to get an early lead of 8-2 in the first set by bringing his tactic style to get the better of Lakshya. However, there were a number of errors from the 20-year old Indian prodigy who tried his best to make a comeback with the help of his coach’s advice and strategy.

The second set was much more intense with both the sides unable to get an early lead for a while after the start of Game 2. Sen managed to take the score to 19-15, not succumbing to Loh’s aggressive game. Unfortunately, Lakshya lost the second set by 21-16. Loh has won his first international tournament in 2 years, having won it last in 2019 when he defeated the great Lin Dan in the Thailand Masters final.

Dutch Open 2021 Prize Money for Loh Kean

Loh Kean will be awarded with a total prize money of US $15,000 for winning the BWF Dutch Open 2021.
