In 2011, at the Military World Games which were held in Rio de Janeiro, Hellen Obiri finished for the first time on a global stage. Obiri clinched a bronze medal in the 800 meters race by finishing fourth in the 1500 meters.

In 2012, Hellen Obiri won the first international championship at the World Indoor Championships which took place in Istanbul with an amazing time record of 8:37.16 over 3000 meters. Hellen won a silver medal in the 5000 meters for 2 times at the Olympics, which were held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and again in Tokyo in 2020. Later on, Hellen finished at number four in 10,000 meters.

New African magazine listed Hellen Obiri as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Africans in 2017.

In 2013, Hellen Obiri clinched a bronze in 1500 m and silver in 10,000 m in 2022. At World Indoor Championships held in 2012, Hellen won the 3000-meter race. In the following years, Hellen won a silver medal and she finished in the fourth position. In the 2019 World Cross Country Championship, Hellen took the first position in the women’s race.

At the second marathon, Hellen Obiri was a winner of the 2023 Boston Marathon. In the history of the half marathons, Obiri comes at the sixth position overall. She currently holds the national records for 3000 meters both indoors and outdoors, and 5000 meters held in Kenya.

At the Tokyo Olympics of 2020, Hellen Obiri competed for Kenya in  the women’s 5000- and 10,000-meter races. Obiri completed the race in 14:38.36, just ahead of Hassan, who ran 14:36.79. Gudaf Tsegay clinched a bronze medal in a time of July 14:38.87. She is 160cm tall and her weight is 50 kg.
