The Maharashtra Bhushan is a high civilian award that is presented by the Government of Maharashtra State to an Indian each year. This award was first given in the fields of Literature, Art Sport, and Science in 1996. This award has been presented for outstanding achievement in a particular field.
This award carries a cash reward of ₹25 lakhs, a memento, and also a citation. The winners have been chosen by a committee which is appointed by the state Government of Maharashtra.

Amit Shah presented the award this year to the social activist Appasaheb Dharmadhikari. This event took place at Navi Mumbai, India.
‘Unfortunately, 11 died due to heat stroke while attending the award event,’ Devendra Fadnavis, deputy Maharashtra Chief Minister said.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde also went to the hospital where 50 people have been admitted with heat-related health issues.
This award function was held in the daytime when the temperature was recorded at a maximum of 38 degrees Celsius. The Chief Minister and other Ministers also attended the event. The award event began at 11.30 am till 1 pm. The ground was heavily packed with people. Audio and video facilities were present for people. The seating for the audience had no shed over it.
Mr. Shinde said the incident was “unfortunate” and also declared a compensation of INR 5 lakh each to the families of people who lost their lives.
“As per the investigation, doctors said 7-8 people died whereas 24 are still being treated as this was a case of sunstroke.” Authorities said.
