PSG’s Lionel Messi has opened up on the players who will be getting his votes for the Ballon d’Or 2021 award
As the 30 nominees for this year’s Ballon d’Or award were revealed by France Football, one named which managed to stand tall was of Lionel Messi.
The PSG player is touted as the outright favourite to lift the coveted prize this year after finally getting his hands around an international trophy. Messi’s triumph with Argentina at the Copa America finally ended his barren run with his country with the end of his drought signaling towards another Ballon d’Or for him.
While Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski has done more than enough to edge infront of Messi, the narrative being built at the moment is of a Messi win. The Polish striker has already netted 50 goals, a player who has done everything over the course of the last couple of seasons to emerge victorious in the Ballon d’Or race.

And Lionel Messi was quick to acknowledge Lewandowski’s genius with him talking about how he and Karim Benzema had been incredible this year. However, when it comes to casting his votes, Messi revealed that he would be giving them to his PSG counterparts, Neymar and Lionel Messi.

The prestigious award this year is set to be a two way battle between Messi and Lewandowski with Cristiano Ronaldo not in the reckoning. Incase Messi ends up winning the 2021 edition of the marquee prize, it would bring an end to his and Ronaldo’s battle for the glistening trophy with Ronaldo unable to catch up with Messi’s wins as he nears the tailend of his career.
