Before Rinku Singh, there were three power hitters who smashed a record 5 sixes in an over while playing for their franchises in the history of the IPL
The ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League has been enthralling cricket enthusiasts across the globe with its usual high-voltage drama. And this amusement comes to a peak on April 9, when a thrilling run chase took place between the Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders.
This is all because of one and only player, Rinku Singh of KKR, who put on one of the greatest performances of all time.
Singh’s outstanding performance, which included hitting five sixes in the last over, helped his squad defeat the Gujarat Titans, the team that had won the previous IPL championship, in an almost impossible manner. However, Singh is not the first batsman to smash five sixes in one over in the IPL.

Before him, there were many other players who also achieved this feat. So, let’s know more about them:
- Ravindra Jadeja during CSK vs. RCB in 2021
Ravindra Jadeja hit five sixes off an over-deliver by Harshal Patel in an IPL 2021 match between RCB and CSK in Mumbai. Jadeja was in a completely different frame of mind during the last over of Chennai’s innings.
The RCB was in a respectable position before that, but the momentum changed drastically at the conclusion. Patel gave up 37 runs in the over, making it the joint-most costly over in the tournament’s history.
- Rahul Tewatia during RR vs. PBKS in 2020
The Rajasthan Royals were having a difficult time chasing down 224, and Rahul Tewatia had only faced 17 of the 23 balls. That was a terrible knock, and one had the impression that his team would lose the match as a result.
Tewatia hit five sixes off the bowling of Sheldon Cottrell in the 18th over, which was an absolutely spectacular turnaround. His outstanding hitting ultimately assisted the Rajasthan Royals in winning the match by four wickets, and that too with three balls remaining.
- Chris Gayle during RCB vs. PWI in 2012
When it comes to the art of six-hitting in the IPL, few names resonate as strongly as that of Christopher Henry Gayle. Having hit five sixes in a single over, he was the first player to do so in IPL history. This happened in a match back in 2012, where Royal Challengers Bangalore needed to chase down 183 runs to secure a victory.
Gayle led his team to a convincing victory with his signature style and flair as he batted 81 runs in only 48 deliveries. The inning’s 13th over, though, was the one that really stood out. The stadium was lit ablaze by Gayle’s incredible power-hitting when he unleashed his whole might on Rahul Sharma, a leg-spinner, and blasted him for five consecutive sixes.
