The 26-year-old cricketer, Vyshak Vijay Kumar, was announced as a replacement for the injured batter, Rajat Patidar. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) announced Kumar will be playing in all the remaining matches in the IPL 2023. 

The news comes as Patidar’s participation in the T20 competition has been suspended due to an Achilles ailment.

Who Is Vyshak Vijay Kumar?

Vyshak Vijay Kumar was born on January 31, 1997, and hails from Bangalore, Karnataka.

Vyshak Vijay Kumar’s Cricket Career

On February 24, 2021, he made his List A debut for Karnataka for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

On November 5, 2021, he made his T20 debut for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021–2022 and his first-class debut for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy in 2021–2022 on February 17, 2022.

Vyshak Vijay Kumar’s Achievements 

He has taken 22 wickets thus far in 14 T20 matches, with a favourable economy rate of 6.92. In 10 first-class and seven List-A games. The right-arm medium pacer also claimed 38 and 11 wickets, respectively.

The cricketer recently claimed two four-wicket hauls against Rajasthan in the Ranji Cup and a wicket against Chattisgarh. His current goal is to apply his domestic success to the IPL. Vyshak paid a base salary of Rs 20 lakh to join the franchise in Bengaluru.

Another Cricketer Who Has Been Replaced In The RCB Team

In the meantime, English fast bowler Reece Topley has been replaced in the RCB team for the IPL 2023 by South African all-rounder Wayne Parnell. This happened after Topley hurt his shoulder playing for the RCB against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 2, at Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

RCB posted a statement on Twitter with the official status stating, “Reece Topley and Rajat Patidar have been replaced, respectively, by South African all-rounder Wayne Parnell and Karnataka bowler Vyshak Vijaykumar, for the remainder of the 2023 IPL.”

Vyshak Vijay Kumar’s Comment On Prasidh Krishna

In IPL 2023, Vyshak Vijay Kumar formerly served as a net bowler for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), bowling to players like Andre Russell and Shubman Gill. He aspires to have a similar style of bowling to Prasidh Krishna, who has distinguished himself as one of the top bowlers in the T20 tournament.

Vyshak Vijay Kumar said, “I’d like to reach that level in the upcoming year. Without a doubt, it was an excellent chance for me. I felt honoured to play with such accomplished cricketers, and I gained so much knowledge from simply being a member of the squad. Prasidh was also a member of KKR, and I have always been very at ease discussing my profession with him. He has also been incredibly helpful.”

He further added, “It has been nothing short of an adrenaline rush for me to watch Prasidh dash towards a bowl in the IPL, and I hope I can reach that level in the upcoming year.”

For those who are unaware, Prasidh Krishna’s lumbar stress fracture has prevented him from participating in IPL 2023. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old is receiving therapy.
