The English batter Jason Roy was found by Kolkata Knight Riders in the market for the IPL 2023 season. Roy, Shakib Al Hasan’s replacement, will be joining the squad for the 16th season.

Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan departed the KKR squad because of personal issues and international commitments.
The captain of KKR, Shreyas Iyer, will also be missing because he requires back surgery to treat a persistent lower back ailment.
As of Thursday, when the Knight Riders take on Royal Challengers Bangalore, the 32-year-old Roy will be a member of the squad.
The IPL disclosed that the English player will receive a substantial raise from his base salary.
Also rumoured to have approached the English star about joining them were Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, but KKR eventually managed to woo him away.
In place of Kane Williamson, who is injured, the Titans have acquired all-rounder Dasun Shanaka from Sri Lanka.
Roy won’t be available for selection for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the team’s upcoming game on April 9 against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, but he will be able to participate in the team’s home game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday.
What is Jason Roy’s KKR Salary?
Jason Roy was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 2.8 million.
The English batter’s base fee was INR 1.5 crore, but KKR ended up paying him nearly twice that sum to secure his services.
After making his IPL debut for Gujarat Lions in the 2017 edition, Roy last played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 campaign.
In 2021, he took part in five games and ran for 150 runs, including a half-century.
The 32-year-old has played for England in 64 T20 Internationals and has made 1,522 runs with a strike rate of 137.61 and eight scores of fifty-plus.
The Englishman will be the tenth player to be replaced this IPL season, across all teams.
