Andros Townsend has detailed how him pulling off the Cristiano Ronaldo siuuu celebration was to honour the Portuguese who he considers an idol
Depleted and knackered with injuries, when Everton took on Manchester United at Old Trafford, the side stared at a colossal task. Pulling off anything from the affair was going to be an achievement for Rafa Benitez’s team on Saturday afternoon.
And as the home side took the lead in the first half, Everton’s task grew increasingly tricky. However, the visitors refused to be deterred with the side levelling things on the day through Andros Townsend, a goal which saw Everton earn a 1-1 draw on the day.

However, more than Townsend’s strike, what really made heads turn was his celebration. The player ran right towards the corner flag after his goal as he jumped in the air and turned before bellowing siuuu to complete the traditional Cristiano Ronaldo celebration.
"He's my idol. I grew up watching Ronaldo, I spent hours on the training pitch trying to execute his techniques.
"Maybe should have spent longer on the celebration because it wasn't great!" 😂

However, Townsend was quick to clarify after the tie that unlike popular belief that he had pulled out the celebration to mock the Portuguese, the celebration was done to pay respect to Ronaldo. Townsend went onto reveal that he was ardent admirer of Ronaldo, a player who he considered as an idol.
Ronaldo meanwhile was benched by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer alongside Paul Pogba, a move which is said to have left him irate. A visibly seething Ronaldo was seen leaving the field after the encounter as he gandered straight down the tunnel with Manchester United slumping to their third winless result in four ties with the only win being a 2-1 triumph over Villareal.
