Eric Montross, a former NBA great, has been diagnosed with cancer and is now receiving treatment, according to his family.
Although the type of his cancer is unknown, the family has vowed to combat it in an emotional statement. They also shared that he will begin his diagnosis at the UNC Lineberger Center in North Carolina. The Montross family shared the news on Saturday via the UNC basketball team’s official Twitter account.
Taking to Twitter, Eric Montross’s family wrote,
Eric was recently diagnosed with cancer and is beginning treatments under the care of the amazing oncologists, nurses and staff at the world-class UNC Lineberger Cancer Center.
They added,
We are all touched by the responses our entire family has received since the news became public.

Who is Eric Montross?
Eric Montross is a well-known former American basketball player. He has been in the news because his family recently announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
On September 23, 1971, he was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, in the United States. He did his schooling at Lawrence North High School. Later, he attended the University of North Carolina.
He is married, and his wife’s name is Laura Leonard. They have two children together. His height is 7 feet 0 inches or 2.13 meters, and his weight is 250 lbs or 113 kg. He is currently 51 years old with his shoe size at 19.
His career
Eric Montross had a successful basketball career both in high school and college. He played for Lawrence North High School and later committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels. In 1994, he was selected by the Boston Celtics as the ninth overall pick in the NBA draft.
During his first year in the NBA, he averaged 10 points per game and was selected to the 1995 Rookie All-Star Game and named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. After playing for the Boston Celtics, he joined various teams during his career, including the Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, and Toronto Raptors. However, he announced his retirement in 2003 due to a foot injury.
Since retiring from basketball, Eric Montross has been involved in various philanthropic endeavors. He co-founded Vaccine Ambassadors, an organization that distributes vaccines all over the world. He also started the Eric Montross Father’s Day Basketball Camp.
