Following a reevaluation earlier today, “Ben Simmons has been diagnosed with a nerve impingement in his back,” the Nets said. As we decide on the appropriate long-term treatment plan, he will continue to be inactive.
All season long, Simmons has struggled with back and knee problems. He also seems to be plagued by the ghosts of his time with the Philadelphia 76ers. Simmons is averaging career lows in points, rebounds, and assists after 42 appearances since being moved to the Nets in the middle of the 2021–22 NBA season.

Many people anticipated that Simmons would seek out a leadership position after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving left the team. Instead, despite a recent run of defeats, the revamped Nets, led by Mikal Bridges, have performed well.

In a 129-100 victory over the Miami Heat on Saturday night, Mikal Bridges scored 27 points and the Brooklyn Nets ended a five-game losing streak that was a season-worst for them.
After their first victory since March 12, the Nets (40-34) jumped back into sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Brooklyn is 1 1/2 games behind the New York Knicks for fifth place and has a half-game advantage over the Heat in seventh place (40-35).
After the break, Brooklyn transformed a 14-point deficit into a rout. Miami was outscored by the Nets 39-18 in the third quarter and 64-31 in the final 24 minutes.
