Following a horrific incident in the Vuelta Extremadura that was caused by a cycling fan leaning into the track while using their phone, the fan has been called reckless. On Friday, the concerned fan appeared to be shooting a picture with their phone, when she ventured off the sidewalk and onto the road. Owing to her careless actions, the fan collided with a rider who was moving quickly down the inside of the road.
Owen Lightfoot, the cyclist in question, was knocked off his bike and into the pack of their rivals, and the supporter in question also fell to the ground. The event’s organizers were compelled to issue a statement after the horrifying collision, warning attendees of the rules they must abide by. Along with this statement, a footage of the incident was released and in response, the viewers agreed with the message.
After the race, Lightfoot tweeted his views over the incident that prevented his momentum in the race. He highlighted the importance of fans but lamented the fact that due to one irresponsible fan, he was taken out during an important race.
