Photos of 24-year-old Buffalo resident Khalil Ahmad Azad autopsy have gone viral on social media after his mother shared them

Azad died last summer in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, after being chased by police because they thought he was driving drunk. His body was found in Crystal Lake two days after he died.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said that Khalil Azad drowned by accident. However, many people on social media think that Azad died because of police brutality after seeing the very disturbing pictures.

Khalil Azad’s face looks swollen in the autopsy photos, which led his family to say that police officers beat him. Some parts of his body also looked big.

After activists said that police beat Azad to death, his family and a number of social justice groups plan to do an independent autopsy. They wrote that the police didn’t need to go after Azad, saying: “Khalil Ahmad Azad was in fact suffering from driving while black. We believe there was no probable cause for Robbinsdale police to initially pursue Khalil, he had not broken any laws while driving.”

Police release body camera footage after public demand for transparency

On July 3, police tried to pull Khalil Azad over because he was driving while drunk. He was driving the SUV when he crashed it near Crystal Lake. He got out of the car and ran away. Officers looked for him for more than an hour before finding his dead body in the lake two days later.

After people asked for more information about the case, the police released the footage from the body cameras of three officers who helped in Khalil Azad’s case.

The body camera footage and the footage from the police car don’t show what started the police chase. After the accident, Officer Tony Heifort is heard saying that the car was going in a strange way. In the recording, he said, “He flipped a [U-turn] and was just driving all over the road.”

The pictures of Khalil Azad have been shared a lot on social media, which has led to conversations about police brutality and racism in society as a whole.

Azad’s family and social justice groups have asked for justice in the case, saying, “We want to know what exactly happened to Khalil Ahmad Azad on the night of July 3rd, 2022.”The event has added to the debate about police brutality and racism in law enforcement, which has been going on for a long time.
