At the Pathum Thani Six Red World Championship in Thailand, Iran’s Hossein Vafaei won his clash against four-time World Champion John Higgins, triumphing 5-1 to ensure his qualification from Group C. Higgins will face Thai amateur Poramin Danjirakul in a do-or-die matchup on Tuesday to ensure his qualification for the round-of-16 stage. During the matches of Monday evening, Danjarakul defeated Doherty 5-3 to eliminate the Irishman. Judd Trump, the reigning Masters champion, defeated Ricky Walden by a score of 5-0 to start his campaign on high-note.
Stephen Maguire, the reigning champion, failed to survive the first day, as he was eliminated from round-robin stage after losing 5-2 against Ding Junhui and Zhang Anda. In order to qualify from the group, Ding and Zhang both defeated Thailand’s 2022 Women’s World Champion Mink Nutcharut. Among other matches from Monday, Robert Milkins won his clash comfortably by score of 5-2 against Matthew Selt.
Contenders will battle it out for a portion of the 11 million Thai baht prize pot, which equates to approximately £265,000 and the winner will receive a £100,000 pay day.
