In 2017, Virat Kohli took over as captain in the limited environment after MS Dhoni decided to step down. Kohli would be leading India in the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time this year. Reason For Letting Go Of The Captainship

The reason for this decision was that he wanted to rest from the hectic schedule as captain to focus more on the captaincy of ODI and Test teams. He said that understanding workload is important, and he was heavily under a lot of pressure regularly captaining for 5-6 years.

Virat will still captain the RCB side in IPL and lead the One Day Internationals and Test squads in later matches. Kohli will step aside from the captaincy right after the T20 World Cup of 2021 in the UAE.
